As I was writing The Latecomers, I sought out other novels in which various generations drive the narrative. I started, of course, with Anna Karenina to see how the heck Tolstoy did that. But he’s not the only juggler of multiple generations I admire. These books are master courses in how to write across time, using characters who harken from different eras.
