Now, you can’t just write a book, you have to tweet it and tumblr it and post it, too. How do all those mini-messages help? Best example is email I got from a writer friend:

I don’t understand how Facebook works, but here’s a story for you. I had lunch with an old friend last week and in the middle of our conversation she said, “So who is this Helen Ross person?” I said “What? How do you know Helen Ross?’ She said, “I don’t but when you like something on Facebook I see it.” That’s the part I don’t understand. I don’t see everything everyone else likes. But that’s not the point. Because the next thing she said was, “She wrote a book, right? It looks really interesting so I ordered it from Amazon. I can’t wait to read it.”
